VMEbus 2eSST performance
The MNME6100 series is the first VMEbus single-board computer (SBC) designed with Tundra Tsi148"TMVMEbus interface chip, providing 2eSSTVMEbus performance. The 2eSST(Two Edge Source Synchronous Transmission) protocol enables VMEbus to operate at a real bandwidth of 320MB/s in most cases. The 2eSST protocol has been around for some time (a draft trial standard was published in 1999 and as an ANSl standard in 2003), but until now, 2eSST boards would not have been able to work on standard VMEbus backplanes because existing VWMEbus transceivers could not support the required VMEbus 2eSST signaling speeds. Texas Instruments has developed a new VMEbus transceiver that supports the VMEbus signal exchange speeds required by the 2eSST protocol. The combination of the new Texas Instruments VMEbus transceiver and Tsi148 'MEbus legacy protocol support allows customers to integrate the MVME6100 series into their existing infrastructure, providing backward compatibility, thereby saving them investments in existing VMEbus boards, backplanes, chassis and software.
Balance performance
The MVME6100 series offers more than just faster VMEbus transfer rates it delivers balanced performance from the processor, memory subsystem, local bus and /O subsystem. Processors running at 1.267GHz are ideal for data-intensive applications. State-of-the-art host bridge with support for a 133MHz host bus and a 133MHz DDR memory bus that matches the processor well. To ensure that the MVME6100 series can handle the 320MB/ data rate of 2eSST, the Tsi148 VMEbus interface chip is connected to one of the 133 MHz PCI-X buses on the host bridge. The second PCI-x bus has two PMC-X stations, each supporting PMC or PMC-X cards, supporting PCIl bus speeds from 33 to 10O MHz. The MVME6100 also offers dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. It all adds up to a well-balanced set of high-performance subsystems with unmatched performance.
